Don't be pushy
Don't be too pushy, don't take an in-your-face sales approach to things. Offer information that people will
want, if you don't they will go to one of the many other websites just like yours that doesn't try to make a
hard sale.
Don't put your site on the back-burner
Don't just put up your web site and expect it to attract lots of new customers. You may not have to put a
lot of effort into it, but you do need to put SOME effort into it. Keep things up to date, don't have old
out-of-date information on your site. Doing just a few small changes or updating older information is
enough to keep atleast some of your traffic checking back.
Offer changing/new content
To have people checking back frequently you need to change what is on your web pages, or atleast add
new content to your web pages. Without this there is no need for anybody to check back. Make sure
people know you are doing something with the web site, and it's not just sitting there.
Quick responses
Be sure to respond quickly to e-mails, having e-mail is a great thing because you can get back to
people when you have the time. But don't just let the e-mail sit there, try to reply within a day
so people don't feel like you aren't paying attention to their request. People don't like being on
hold long, just as they don't like having an e-mail go unanswered for long.
Don't clutter up your site
Make sure your site doesn't get TOO many advertisements on it, and make sure it is always easy for people to
navigate around on. This may get more tricky the bigger your site gets, but make use of a site search and
split large areas up into smaller categories. And DON'T use javascript to pop-up windows on your visitors.
That is a good way to annoy and lose visitors.
Newsletters
Another good way to let people know you haven't dropped off the face of the earth is to have a newsletter
which your visitors can subscribe to. This may require a lot of effort coming up with a monthly newsletter
or some such thing. But people who have requested to be on a list for a newsletter are probably pretty
interested in what you have to offer on your site. So you keep a good audience that way.
Be useful
If you cater to your visitors, if your website gives them what they want, they will come back.
